Privacy Policy — Verso

Verso (“the app”, “we”) is a vocabulary flashcard app. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. We aim to collect as little as possible.

The short version

• Verso works fully offline without an account — your data stays on your device.
• If you sign in, your wordbooks, cards, and review history sync to our cloud backend so you can use them across devices.
• Verso shows occasional ads (Google AdMob) and uses a crash-reporting service (Sentry) to keep the app stable. Ads are non-personalized — they are not based on a profile of you.
• We do not sell your data and we do not share your wordbook content for advertising.
• You can delete your account and all synced data at any time from inside the app (Profile → Delete account).

What we collect

If you do not sign in: nothing leaves your device. Your wordbooks, cards, review logs, and preferences are stored locally on your device only.

If you sign in (optional):

• Account identifier — your email address and a user ID provided by your chosen sign-in provider (Apple or Google). We do not receive your password.
• Your content — the wordbooks, cards (terms, meanings, examples), and review history (study logs) you create. These are synced to our cloud backend and associated with your account.

AI features: when you use an AI feature (e.g. “AI fill”, “Autofill”, or “Today’s words”), the word(s) and the relevant language pair are sent — through our server — to Google’s Gemini API to generate definitions, example sentences, and translations. We send only the text needed for that request. A per-user daily usage count is kept to prevent abuse.

Advertising (Google AdMob): Verso displays occasional interstitial ads served by Google AdMob. We request non-personalized ads only, so they are not based on a profile built about you. To serve ads and prevent fraud, the AdMob SDK may process technical data such as your IP address (which indicates coarse, country-level location), device and ad-interaction information. Verso does not use Apple’s App Tracking Transparency tracking and does not link this data to your identity across other companies’ apps or websites. Crash reporting (Sentry): to find and fix crashes, we use Sentry. When the app encounters an error it sends diagnostic data — such as the error/stack trace, device model, and OS version — to Sentry. This is used only to improve app stability.

We do not collect device contacts, photos, or precise GPS location. We do not use AI on your content for advertising.

Service providers we use

• Supabase — authentication, database, and cloud sync hosting for signed-in users’ content.
• Google — Google Sign-In (if you choose it), the Gemini API for AI generation, and Google AdMob for serving ads.
• Sentry — crash and error reporting.
• Apple — Sign in with Apple (if you choose it).

These providers process data on our behalf to deliver the app’s features. Your content is not sold or shared for advertising.

How your data is stored and protected

• Synced data is isolated per user with row-level security, so one account cannot read another’s data.
• All network communication uses encrypted HTTPS/TLS.
• Local data lives in the app’s private storage on your device.

Data retention and deletion

• Account deletion: Profile → Delete account permanently removes your account and all of its synced data (wordbooks, cards, review logs, usage records). This cannot be undone.
• Local data: uninstalling the app removes the data stored on that device.

Children

Verso is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
